The wording of the Greek appeal and the position of the American Government
Abstract
The Greek administration after taking the initiative, made an appeal for the Cyprus issue to the UN hoping that a solution will be found in its context and more specific aiming for the self-determination of the island. A Greek newspaper, "Estia", published an article about the appeal on the UN and clearly defended the Greek delegation on the management of the matter. The editor also said that the primal objective of the delegation was the self-determination of Cyprus and not only the self-government as the article 73 of the UN charter refers to. Moreover, it was pointed out that the American Government did not keep to its promises of strict neutrality on the matter.
